Together we can tell Dominion Power and state officials that we want the combination of alternatives that will get us the power we need.

What are the Alternatives?

You want to be sure that all our communities will have the power they need as Virginia continues to be America's best place to live and work.

No one wants to face the prospect of a less reliable energy future for our homes and businesses.

The natural question is: Is there an alternative to Dominion Power's proposal?

The answer is: Yes.

Virginia's Commitment is in favor of the combination of alternatives that gets us the energy we depend upon and keeps moving Virginia forward:

  • Upgrade Dominion Power’s existing lines to increase capacity.
  • Develop a cleaner and more diverse mix of Virginia-based power generation.
  • Invest in energy efficiency and conservation.
  • Bury the lines in locations along the way, especially in places of scenic, historic, environmental and community importance.
  • Develop a cost-effective level of demand-side management.
  • Build a "distributed generation" network powered by wind, solar, natural gas and other sources of energy.

These are not "pie-in-the-sky" ideas. They are proven techniques of an integrated resource portfolio approach adopted by leading utilities. It's an approach that helps forward-thinking energy firms serve their customers needs and anticipate regulatory and investor demands.
